In response to this suggestion, the Home Treatment Team conducted a thorough assessment of Miss Kelly's state of mind and her current functioning. The review included an in-depth medical history and physical exam. It also included a thorough psychological and family therapy assessment and a psychiatric diagnostic assessment.

According to the report, Miss Kelly was suffering from a variety of mental health issues, including borderline personality disorders, bulimia, and anorexia. She also had an history of addiction to drugs and had been a victim of domestic abuse. Depression, anxiety, and stress exacerbated her symptoms. She was also diagnosed with bipolar affective and schizoaffective disorder.

Elayaperumal claims Medtronic discriminated against him in a deliberate way because of his race or assessment national origin. He claims that his poor performance review in June of 2000 and the denial to award him certain assignments were motivated by racism. Medtronic has not provided any evidence to show that its decisions were based on these factors. In addition, Elayaperumal's poor performance review did not result in an increase in his compensation or benefits, or even his responsibilities.
